Brest Fortress Development Concept Presentation Announcement

On December 19th Brest Fortress Development Foundation will present Brest Fortress Development and Preservation Concept.

On the extended working session Brest Fortress Development Foundation will present Brest Fortress Development and Preservation Concept, which was elaborated by the expert team under the supervision of a European museum expert Dieter Bogner within a year period.

Over 120 representatives of local and regional authorities, representatives of Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Belarus, Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, Academy of Sciences as well as partners and experts of the project “Brest-2019” and other guests are invited to participate in the discussion.

Concept Development Program was launched in November 2012. In the meantime scientific and practical as well as archival researches were conducted, over 15 seminars, public roundtables and expert discussions were held. In total, more than 1,000 representatives of academic, business and cultural communities of Brest and Belarus attended these events.

This concept aims at creating on Brest Fortress site territory an international historical, cultural and tourist centre, which will be able to attract up to 2 million visitors a year, what in turn will allow to introduce the city and its region to the international tourism markets.

The concept will present the key milestones of 1000-year city history, will form a model for the sustainable development of the territory and for the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Fortress. In addition, the concept will illustrate new scenarios and motivations for a visit to the Fortress by the city’s residents as well as will allow for the development of the existing museums.

Project «BREST-2019»                                                                                     

The Project objective is to develop and implement a holistic project that aims at preservation and development of Brest Fortress and adjacent areas.

The Project task is to create on the territory of Brest Fortress an international historical, cultural and tourist centre, which will be able to attract up to 2 million visitors a year.

The project includes:

•          Brest Fortress Development Master Plan (zoning, infrastructure, new tourism facilities, marketing program, execution schedule and budget);

•          Master Plan – a reconstruction project of the Brest city historical quarter that is bounded by Lenin Street, M1 highway and Brest Fortress Defense Heroes Street;

•          Marketing strategy and economic model of the project implementation plan.

For the purpose of the project implementation a local charitable foundation «Brest Fortress Development Foundation» was established.

The Foundation objective is to bring together intellectual, financial and organizational efforts and capabilities of the Russian, Belarusian and foreign individuals and legal entities in order to facilitate the development of Brest Fortress and adjacent areas.

 

The main Foundation task is to raise funds and resources for the development of Brest Fortress and adjacent areas. The Foundation will raise funds from different grant programs, foundations and other institutions and organizations of the Republic of Belarus, CIS countries, the Union State and European Union. In addition, the foundation’s activity will by financed by the donations from individuals and legal entities.
